The Jazz Jousters Podcast #3 by Carys Matic

It was a huge honour to be asked to host the Jazz Jousters podcast. A lot of love went into this playlist and I hope it shines through the tracks I selected. I've included a number of jazz-influenced hip hop gems that have inspired me over the years, alongside some more recent tracks that get my head nodding and my brain ticking. I also threw in a couple of joints from my forthcoming EP 'The Spaces in the Silence'. I hope you enjoy listening to this set as much as I enjoyed compiling it. Peace, Carys 'Matic' Jones Download

The Jazz Jousters Podcast #3 by OJB

My love affair with hip hop music started at a young age and has seen me take a journey through nearly all forms of rap music from gangster rap to conscious UK music. My journey has not only been as a fan but also a musician in my own right. As a beat maker and composer I pay a lot of attention to instrumentation and the relationship between different aspects that make up a track. I hope that my selection of jazz and jazz-influenced music from some of my favourite producers and artists will in part explain my passion for well produced and interesting music.

Jazz music has always been a huge influence on the producers and artists I listen to and I hope you enjoy my selection. Don't forget to check back for the podcasts every fortnight for your next dose of jazzy hip hop.

The Jazz Jousters - The Chet Baker Tribute EP

'Almost Blue’ is an EP in tribute to the great Chet Baker from the members of Millennium Jazz’s online community that is the Jazz Jousters group. With their shared love of Jazzhop and Jazz orientated music the group was inspired by Chet Baker’s ‘Almost Blue’ and decided to have a lab off session using the classic song as a sample.

The project features versions from the likes of international beatsmiths such as, Mr. Moods, DRTYDRDZ, Joe Davies, Blue Buttonz, Gadget & B 3 N B I who all bring various ingredients and leave us with this flavorful little dish on the table for the taking.

‘Almost Blue’ is the first and probably not the last mass collaboration project to come from the Jazz Jousters group as this was a result of only a small number of their community of musicians, poets, emcees, Dee Jays, producers and music lovers.

Ishkan - Confluent Des Presages

Big up to my Sistren Gyspy Eyes for putting me on to this one as she is continuiously spreading the love and sharing/promoting music from artists all over the globe. This time she was telling me about Ishkan from Canada who comes with a nice base driven Jazzhop number. I'll keep my ears out for this brotha in future as I'm liking what I'm hearing!

Melodiq ft Sisa Feherova - Push It Away

New single from Pittsburgh's own, emcee Melodiq. This is a very uplifting track that is packed with soulful keys and synthesizers composed by Ondrej Zatkuliak. The track features DJ Atom on the cuts during the bridge, as well as Sisa Feherova on the hook ..both complement the songs atmosphere in fine style. Get It Here or stream below...

'Snow' is Mr Knyt's latest EP that he actually dropped in Dec and had many us vibing out to these soul filled gems. The EP has some great instrumentals and even features my Synoptic Records favorites, JND aka Jas0n & ExP and also Joe Gravity.
See the tags blow to link to KNYT's previous EP 'Fall'.

Breis - The Moving On Project

Just in from Breis ..brand spanking new project. I will confess I haven't heard this as he literally announced it this morning and then presented the link not five minutes ago, but just like how any movie starring Anthony Hopkins is worth a watch, I would say any project by Breis is worth a listen. I'll expect this to be very positive and uplifting.

Slugga Tee - Passages From The Puddle

From the Millennium Jazz stable comes Slugga Tee and his solo E.P ‘Passages From The Puddle’ as with all of MJM’s material you know this is not just another boring release. Slugga combines the wit of the school reunion with painful topics such as custody battles and life’s struggles. Having built up his name with an abundance of features throughout the years, and a DJ Magazine sureshot single with his old crew 12” Matter he has now been rolling with the Millennium Jazz team and putting tracks out since 2009. Hailing from East Sussex, Slugga is a father, a rapper and possibly the craziest sane person in the game! creditsreleased 01 April 2012
