Root Down Tribute to MCA by Conan Liquid

Words by Conan Liquid...

For all those who know me personally, you know that I started out as a Hip Hop DJ and producer in the mid 80s. The Beastie Boys were a massive influence on me as a DJ, a person, producer and writer. With the untimely death of MCA last week I wanted to pay tribute in the only way I know how. Remix some old Beastie Boys. Here is the first of my tributes to MCA and a welcome return to my Hip Hop roots. Downloadable for those who want to play it out or PLAY IT LOUD.

Grimey L - That Girl ( B3NBi Remix )

This one was brought to my attention by B 3 N B i from our Jazz Jousters Hip Hop Jazz group where he introduced the track and remix of Grimey L's 'That Girl'. Here we have both the remix which is my personal fav, and the original song.

And now for the original...

'STILL DIGGIN' REMIX EP BY GADGET

Gadget kicks starts 2010 in fine style with this remix project as he remakes some of his favorite tracks and artists while bringing a Jazz, Soul, Classical etc fusion. This EP boasts skills on the boards as we witness a demonstration of compositional abilities on the Edo G & JaySaun ‘Pay The Price’ remix and we hear a straight up sample flip on Gadget’s very well respected M.O.P vs Inspector Gadget ‘Ante Up’ remix where the man takes the Inspector Gadget theme tune and works his magic to create a hardcore remix of the M.O.P classic. And it doesn’t end there either…

Tracklist:

1. M.O.P vs Inspector Gadget flip: Ante Up Remix = Original produced by DJ Premier / Shuki Levy

2. J-Live: Whoever Remix = Original produced by J-Live (yes vocals were shifted on purpose)

3. Talib Kweli & Bahamadia: Choas Remix = Original produced by DJ Hi-Tek

4. Edo G & JaySaun: Pay The Price Remix [fully composed/no samples] = Original produced by Pete Rock

5. Jay-Z: Threats Remix = original produced by 9th Wonder
