Dusted Off pt7: Chet Baker Documentary

I haven't done a Dusted Off post in almost two years but I found it fitting to do this one as myself and some of the heads in our Jazz Jousters Facebook group are flipping Chet's 'Almost blue' Classic. This will be released this weekend (June 1st) on the Millennium Jazz Bandcamp under the name of The Jazz Jousters. If you know your Jazzhop you may even recognise some of the many names of international Hip Hoppers that are Jousting with us.

Anyway back to the doc ..I'll confess that before starting the above project I didn't know half as much about the great Chet Baker as I do now. You may find this to be quite deep or possibly very inspirational. We shall see...

R.I.P Chesney Henry "Chet" Baker, Jr. (December 23, 1929 – May 13, 1988)

Spee Six Nine ft Efeks & Guilty Simpson - Heavyweights

Have to say I've never heard of Spee Six Nine before and was simply influenced by seeing Efeks (who just posted it on Fbk) and Guitly Simpson. It was also good to see production was by young Jaisu, who I knew of back in my Louis Deen Beat Battle days (Kosyne/LDBB are you lot still active?). Anyway, this is a good track of straight spitting and no doubt I'll remember the name like 'Spee Six Nine' if and when I come across it again!

They've given it the full treatment as far a as single goes so you can expect the original version, a reprise, the instrumental, as well as the bonus 'Lost Days' track and instrumental, again produced by the DPC. Check it out, it quality stuff and it's FREE!

Ishkan - Confluent Des Presages

Big up to my Sistren Gyspy Eyes for putting me on to this one as she is continuiously spreading the love and sharing/promoting music from artists all over the globe. This time she was telling me about Ishkan from Canada who comes with a nice base driven Jazzhop number. I'll keep my ears out for this brotha in future as I'm liking what I'm hearing!

Camp America - Intuition & Dreams

Something very different here. I actually went and listened to the 'Powerskills' track after Savvy aka Asaviour posted it up on Facebook and the design of the page took me back some years and made me think of thing like Amstrad or Atari. Once you hear some of Camp America's music you kind of get the vibe via audio as well. I can't say this whole LP is for me, but it found me at a time when I wanted to hear something completely different. That said, you can't ignore the skills that have gone into making this project and the quality of the artists involved.

Root Down Tribute to MCA by Conan Liquid

Words by Conan Liquid...

For all those who know me personally, you know that I started out as a Hip Hop DJ and producer in the mid 80s. The Beastie Boys were a massive influence on me as a DJ, a person, producer and writer. With the untimely death of MCA last week I wanted to pay tribute in the only way I know how. Remix some old Beastie Boys. Here is the first of my tributes to MCA and a welcome return to my Hip Hop roots. Downloadable for those who want to play it out or PLAY IT LOUD.
